This tour takes you along the stunning southwest coastline to Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved colonial sea fortresses in Asia, built by the Dutch in the 17th century. Your guide will lead you on a leisurely walk around the massive coral-stone ramparts, along the cobblestoned streets lined with colonial mansions and boutique shops, and into the atmospheric interiors of the Dutch Reformed Church, the National Maritime Museum and the old Dutch Hospital. The surrounding area of Unawatuna and the Jungle Beach offer a beautiful swimming stop, and a visit to the nearby Kosgoda sea turtle hatchery, where rescued eggs are incubated and hatchlings released into the sea, provides a moving wildlife encounter en route.
